Lucien Kapp

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our friend, Lucien Cyril Kapp. Lucien passed away on April 30, 2024.
Lucien was an advocate for local history and preservation long before most of us were born. He had 90 years of a life well-lived. He was an artist, deacon, teacher, singer, poet, and historian to name a few of his talents and positions. He was instrumental at the Homestead over many years, holding positions and helping with major restorations. It was Lucien who was able to add us to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. We are the first place in Decatur to have such an honor, and we owe that all to Lucien.
Lucien and his wife, Brigitta, are loved by all who have been involved at the Homestead, past and present. We could certainly talk about Lucien forever, but the family has written a great obituary and you can read it, as well as find out about the upcoming services for Lucien, at this location: https://www.gracelandfairlawn.com/obituaries/Lucien-Kapp/…
You can also watch a video of Lucien, speaking about Millikin Place. In this video, you get a glimpse of his great intelligence, and you can see how passionate he was about local history. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4ULQVE8SGc
We love you, Lucien, and you will be GREATLY missed.
