The Blooming of Decatur

Tuesday, October 21, 2025

What a fabulous day it was! The Garden Club of Decatur was back in our original home, the James Millikin Homestead, for a day of celebration and remembrance. We were transported back to 1925 in our dress, our tea service, and our leadership. Mrs. Henry D. Spencer (aka Lesa Andrick) who is credited with the formation of the Garden Club of Decatur led the meeting with a spirited performance of the times in which the Club was formed followed by a vote to officially establish the Garden Club of Decatur 100 years ago! One hundred years later the Club is alive and vibrant contributing to the beauty of our town, the education of its citizens and the conservation and protection of nature. At nearly 100 members, the Club continues to grow with members interested in horticultural programs, floral design and social interactions. We are tremendously proud of the 100-year-old Garden Club of Decatur and we will continue to support its growth and mission for the next 100 years.
